Dr. Andrey Nevidov, an oncology specialist, warns that e-cigarettes are not a safer alternative to traditional smoking, as they contain the same carcinogenic substances. Both types of smoking release around 7,000 chemicals, including 70 with harmful genetic effects.
Nevidov explains that toxic substances in e-cigarettes damage the lungs at a cellular level. When heated, their components trigger biochemical reactions that destroy lung cells, disrupt alveolar function, and increase the risk of pneumonia. One particularly harmful substance, Vitamin A acetate, makes the alveoli rigid, impairing their elasticity and leading to severe lung issues.
Experts stress the need for awareness, cautioning against the misconception that e-cigarettes are a safer choice.
