Qatar PM Pledges Support for Syria’s Infrastructure Rehabilitation

During his first visit on Thursday, January 16, 2025, to Damascus since Syria’s new administration took power, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, vowed to aid in rebuilding the country’s war-torn infrastructure. The visit follows Qatar’s reopening of its embassy in Damascus last month after a 12-year closure.

Sheikh Mohammed announced plans to provide technical assistance to restore essential infrastructure and support Syria’s electricity sector, including supplying 200 megawatts of power and expanding production. He also expressed readiness to cooperate on lifting sanctions against Syria.

The Qatari leader condemned Israel’s seizure of the buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights, calling for Israel’s immediate withdrawal.
