Tunisia: 27 Dead, 83 Rescued in Shipwreck off Kerkennah Island

On January 2, two boats carrying 110 migrants sank off the coast of Kerkennah, Tunisia. Authorities confirmed that 27 bodies were recovered, including a newborn, and 83 passengers were rescued by coast guard and civil protection teams.

The migrants, all of sub-Saharan origin, included women and children. One boat capsized, while the other sank three nautical miles from the islands. The survivors, including 17 women and seven minors, are receiving assistance, with 15 taken to the hospital.

Search operations continue as authorities work to locate additional survivors.
