German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced on Friday the dissolution of parliament and officially set February 23, 2025, as the date for early elections. This decision follows the collapse of the governing coalition and a vote of no confidence against Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
In his address, the President emphasized that political stability remains a key strength of Germany.
Recent opinion polls indicate that the conservative opposition is the frontrunner in the upcoming elections, ahead of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Social Democratic Party led by Scholz.
