Cybercrime Caused Over $16 Billion in Losses Worldwide in 2024

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported on Wednesday that worldwide losses from cybercrime exceeded $16 billion in 2024, marking a sharp increase from the previous year.

According to the newly released report, losses rose by nearly one-third compared to 2023, driven largely by relatively simple scams. These included schemes targeting novice investors by stealing funds online, as well as fraudulent emails that tricked company employees into transferring large sums to bank accounts controlled by criminals.

The report also highlighted that scams involving fake technical support and romance fraud accounted for hundreds of millions of dollars in additional losses.
