On April 21, 2025, Tunisia successfully recovered 11,795 ancient artifacts from the University of Georgia, which had been temporarily exported in 1990 for research purposes as part of a collaborative project between the National Heritage Institute and the university. The recovered items include 3,460 bronze coins, 2,715 pieces made of ivory and animal or human bones, 2,825 glass and crystal artifacts, as well as various ceramic and metal objects.
The recovery efforts began in early 2024, facilitated by cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tunisian Embassy in Washington, and Tunisian Customs. The artifacts were returned in optimal conditions thanks to these efforts. In addition, 3,852 Roman coins are scheduled to be recovered from Randolph College in the United States on April 25, 2025.
