An international conference hosted in London on Tuesday called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Sudan, pledging to raise more than $800 million in additional aid for the country, which is mired in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis as the war enters its third year.
Participants in the conference emphasized the « urgent need to prevent the fragmentation of Sudan, » which has been torn apart by conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. They also stressed the importance of ensuring « no external interference » in the ongoing conflict.
The conference was organized through a joint initiative by the United Kingdom, the European Union, Germany, France, and the African Union. The Sudanese government was not invited to participate.
