On Sunday, Algerian Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who arrived in Algiers on an official visit aimed at easing the tensions that have overshadowed relations between the two countries for several months.
According to Algerian state television, the two ministers held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Barrot is also expected to be received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his visit.
Barrot’s trip follows a phone call last Monday between President Tebboune and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, during which the two leaders agreed to put an end to the unprecedented diplomatic crisis between their countries.
According to French media sources, Barrot will meet with Minister Attaf to « solidify » the resumption of dialogue on the most sensitive issues hindering bilateral relations, including the topic of migration.
