The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully suspended a decision requiring 12 Tunisian students on the « Thomas Jefferson » scholarship program to leave the U.S. The move follows efforts by the ministry and the Tunisian Embassy in Washington to find alternative funding solutions.
The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) had previously informed the students of their mandatory departure due to the U.S. government’s 90-day suspension of foreign aid, which impacted the program’s funding.
The ministry clarified that this is not an expulsion but a consequence of the program’s suspension. Since 2013, the scholarship has enabled over 630 Tunisian students to study in U.S. institutions.
