Italy Commits €400 Million for Food Security Partnership with Tunisia

On January 16, 2025, Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti and Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani signed a joint declaration committing €400 million in funding for 2025-2027. The funds will support the TANIT strategic partnership on food security and energy transition cooperation.

The meeting also addressed economic ties, migration management, and preparations for key bilateral events. Tajani announced plans for an economic forum in Tunisia to boost investment. Both sides emphasized tackling irregular migration through a comprehensive approach and enhancing organized migration frameworks.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to Tunisia-EU partnerships and regional stability, with Italy expressing hope for peace in the Middle East. This meeting strengthens Tunisia-Italy relations ahead of their 70th diplomatic anniversary in 2026.
