Damascus Airport Reopens with First Flights in Over a Decade

On Tuesday, the first Syrian flight departed Damascus International Airport for Sharjah, UAE, marking the resumption of operations at the airport following its rehabilitation since the fall of the Syrian regime. According to the Syrian news agency SANA, the flight carried 145 passengers.

On the same day, Al Jazeera reported the arrival of the first Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Damascus in 13 years. This development follows the suspension of flights to Damascus in 2012 due to the Syrian crisis.

Last Thursday, Qatar Airways announced plans to resume flights to Syria, with three weekly flights to Damascus starting January 7.
