Donald Trump Proposes Merging Canada with the United States

Following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation on Monday, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump suggested merging Canada with the United States.

In a social media post, Trump claimed many Canadians would welcome becoming the « 51st state » and criticized the trade deficit and subsidies supporting Canada.

« If Canada joins the U.S., there will be no tariffs, taxes will drop significantly, and it will be safe from Russian and Chinese threats, » Trump wrote, calling it a chance to form a « great nation. »
