As the new year begins, some older smartphones will no longer support WhatsApp, starting January 1, 2025. This change will affect devices that have remained functional for over a decade, including certain Android and iPhone models, raising concerns for users who rely on these devices.
Affected Android Models:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini
- Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
Later in 2025, WhatsApp will also drop support for older iPhone models. Starting May 5, the app will no longer work on iOS versions earlier than 15.1. While some iPhone users can update their devices, others are limited to iOS 12.5.7 and will lose WhatsApp access.
Affected iPhone Models:
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, stated that these changes are part of routine updates to ensure the app remains secure and functional on newer devices. The changes will affect both the regular WhatsApp app and WhatsApp Business, as they share the same OS requirements.
