Tunisian Interior Minister Meets with his Italian Counterpart in Rome

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Tunisian Minister of the Interior, Khaled Nouri, met with his Italian counterpart, Matteo Piantedosi, and several of officials at the headquarters of the Italian Ministry of the Interior in Rome. The meeting was also attended by the Tunisian Ambassador to Italy.

This meeting provided another opportunity to reaffirm the strong bilateral relations between Tunisia and Italy and the strategic partnership between the two countries’ interior ministries. The focus of the discussion was primarily on the shared efforts to combat irregular migration and enhance cooperation to mitigate its negative impacts on both countries.

The two ministers expressed their commitment to making every effort to find practical solutions for border control and reducing irregular migration.

They praised the results of the joint working groups established to address these issues. Both sides also agreed on the need to adopt a regional strategy to unify the efforts of all countries involved in combating irregular migration, tackling human trafficking, and working toward ensuring the voluntary return of migrants to their home countries. This would be achieved through long-term developmental solutions in partnership with countries in the region.
